MATHEMATICS HONOURS

4 YEAR B.Sc. MATHEMATICS HONOURS (WITH or WITHOUT RESEARCH)

Department of Mathematics, K. K. Das College offers the programme Four-year B.Sc Honours in Mathematics (with or without Research) under University of Calcutta. The syllabus of the programme is designed by the University under Curriculum & Credit Framework (CCF-2022) adhering NEP 2020. This programme consists of eight semesters with multiple exit options with appropriate certifications. A UG certificate is given after successful completion of first 2 semesters (1 year), UG diploma is given after successfully completing first 4 semesters (2 years) of study, Bachelor degree is given after completing first 6 semesters (3-year) and 4-year bachelor degree (honours) is given after completing all eight semesters of study. Students obtaining CGPA equivalent or higher than 75% marks after successful completion of all the first 6 semesters may opt for Honours with research Degree Course in the 7th & 8th Semester. Also, there is an option for re-entry to the programme within three years. However, the programme is to be completed within the stipulated maximum period of seven years. The teaching – learning process is student-centric and it involves theory & practical components, internship and project works. A student gets a strong foundation in the subject and gains in-depth knowledge. This will suit the present day needs of the student in terms of securing the path towards higher studies or employment. On successful completion of Mathematics Honours program: a Provide students sufficient knowledge and skills enabling them to undertake further studies in mathematics and its allied areas on multiple disciplines concerned with Mathematics. A student can acquire knowledge and understanding of various branches of pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics including Geometry, Algebra, Mathematical Analysis and Discrete Mathematics, Statistics, Operational Research and Differential Equations". One can also acquire knowledge of several specialized areas of advanced Mathematics and its applications. One will be able to analyze the results and apply them to various problems appearing in different branches of Mathematics, understand mathematical statements ideas and results both verbally and in writing with correct use of Mathematical definition, terminology and symbolism. One will be able to communicate various concepts of mathematics effectively using examples and their geometrical visualizations. He or She will be able to work collaboratively with peers and instructors to acquire mathematical understanding, formulate & solve problems and present solutions. One will be able to use computer packages which appropriate to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical problems.

Elegibility Criteria

50% marks in aggregate of best four subjects in H. S. (10+2) or equivalent level and 45 % marks in Mathematics
